Fenna and her mother live in a flat dwelling in town. Her father has stayed behind in their countryside house, nursing his perpetual headache and being hypersensitive. Fenna has to build a new life here, and then it doesn’t help to have a bully like Tess in her class and to have impossible homework assignments to do. Fortunately, there are the other inhabitants of the flat: the inquisitive Bakker sisters, the students, the undertaker and his wife, the Polish Janek, and since recently there’s the mysterious Benedict. So there is lots to discover outside her front door – especially since there are odd things going on. All sorts of things simply disappear, while Benedict receives letters from prison. Janek seems a bit too interested in her mother, and then every Wednesday afternoon an angry girl is at the door… Fenna finds herself with more than enough to do! Annejan Mieras has written an extremely cheerful children’s book that leaves the reader desiring more, much more.
ANNEJAN MIERAS studied engineering at TU Delft, where she graduated in designing a primary school. Perhaps that was already a sign: after fifteen years of architecture, she switched to education. She has been a teacher at a free school for more than ten years. In 2018 she debuted at Lemniscaat with Portico Sea View.
